Welcome to the Introduction to Gender Equality Course, developed by the Supply Reduction Unit (SRU) of the Executive Secretariat of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (ES-CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and financed by the Anti-Crime Capacity Building Program (ACCBP) of Global Affairs Canada, as part of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.

This course was developed within the framework of the Inter-American Program for Strengthening Gender Equality in Counterdrug Law Enforcement Agencies (GENLEA), which aims to support OAS member states to strengthen gender equality in counterdrug law enforcement agencies, with the aim of increasing their capacity to counter drug trafficking.

The course is composed by three modules:
    1.     MODULE 1: Conceptual Framework (estimated completion time: 1.5 hours)
    2.     MODULE 2: International and Regional Frameworks for Gender Equality (estimated completion time: 1.5 hours)
    3.     MODULE 3: Gender Mainstreaming in the Security Sector (estimated completion time: 1.5 hours)

Please note that your completion progress will be automatically saved as you advance through the course. Therefore, we advise to complete it while having a solid internet connection.

Also, to avoid distractions, please be advised that, your progress will be paused if you leave the course window or if you open other programs while you complete it. To ensure the best possible understating of the lessons and to avoid delays on other responsibilities, we strongly advise to establish a specific timeframe where  you can dedicate only to completing the course.

After the completion of this course, you would have a better understanding of gender related concepts and definitions; you would be able to identify the most relevant and important international and regional standards on women´s rights and gender equality; and you will understand the importance of gender equality in the security sector. Finally, you will learn a wide range of good practices and recommendations that you can implement to foster a gender equitable work force.

At the end of each module, you will have to complete a quiz in order to be able to move forward with the next one. To receive your certificate, you will also have to complete a final exam on the topics covered.

If you have any question, please, send an email to: genleaCICAD@oas.org , and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
